Arriving at Old Gold cafe feels like reaching a tiny but luxurious boutique hotel in a European backstreet. Exposed brick walls, smooth terrazzo flooring, dark wood furnishings and rustic rafters intertwined with a maze of pipes crossing a warehouse ceiling. All tucked into a quiet laneway just metres from Cleveland Street. Housed in a brick building formerly owned by Australian company MacRobertson’s Confectionery, responsible for creating the Cherry Ripe, Freddo Frog and Old Gold dark chocolate varieties (taken over by Cadbury in 1967), this is Sample Coffee’s newest cafe.
